The Phillies would not have gone to the 1993 World Series without his leadership

After fans hurled giveaway baseballs onto the field for a third time in disgust over a bad call and player ejections, the Dodgers had to forfeit their game against the Cardinals with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Final score: Cardinals 2, Dodgers 1. Here’s a vintage report from “SportsCenter.”

“It was unbelievable,” Dodgers manager Tom Lasorda said at the time, according to the Los Angeles Times. “I’ve never seen anything like this. I’m disappointed in the ones who threw the balls, not the good fans.”

The forfeit wasn’t without controversy, as one might expect. Despite balls being thrown onto the field multiple times, fans received no warning to stop. So when umpire Jim Quick abruptly ended the game, it took many by surprise — including the Dodgers.

Versatile as an outfielder, first baseman and catcher, Daulton hit .245 over his career with 137 home runs and 588 RBIs. He led the NL with 109 RBIs in 1992, a season in which he had a slash line of .270/.385/.524 and hit a career-best 27 home runs. He also drove in 105 runs in 1993 and was named the Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year in 1997, when he hit .263 with 14 homers and 63 RBIs during his split-season with the Phillies and Marlins.

“Darren was a true leader of men. The Phillies would not have gone to the 1993 MLB Jerseys Wholesale World Series without his leadership,” Phillies chairman emeritus Bill Giles said. “In addition to being an outstanding clubhouse leader, he was also a fighter. He battled through five knee operations to become an All-Star. I really enjoyed watching him for 14 years in uniform. Darren was a super human being. His New Nike NFL Jerseys teammates loved him, I loved him like he was one of my own. In fact, he called me ‘Uncle Bill.'”

Dwyane Wade open to leaving Bulls because of their mediocrity

The Bulls are mediocre this season, hovering around the .500 mark, and that’s not good enough for Dwyane Wade.

The veteran guard chose Chicago this offseason after departing from the Heat for the first time in his career. But at 35 years old, Wade is looking at the few years he has left of his playing days and wondering if the Bulls will be the right fit.

“I’m playing basketball,” Schroder told The AJC. “If he think that he got to curse at my mom or say some dumb stuff about my family, that has nothing to do with basketball. That’s his choice. I’ve got too much class for that. Next one, we are going to get it.”

Thomas addressed Schroder’s comments on Sunday, telling reporters, “I don’t talk about nobody’s mom. I don’t cuss at nobody’s mom. And I don’t talk about people’s families. So whatever he said, that’s a 100 percent lie, and he knows that.” Thomas went on to say he doesn’t want to talk about Schroder any longer because “he’s not even on the level that I’m trying to be on.”

Schroder and Thomas have a history dating back to the 2016 NBA playoffs. Thomas took a swing at Schroder’s head in Game 3 of the first-round series, and Schroder retaliated with a hard hip check on the ensuing possession.

It was Thomas who won the battle on Friday, scoring a game-high 28 points, including a game-winning fadeaway jumper in the final seconds. Schroder finished with 4 points on 2-of-11 shooting New Nike NFL Jerseys after struggling with foul trouble.

Thomas and Schroder will have a chance to rekindle the rivalry on NHL Jerseys Wholesale Feb. 27 in Boston and April 6 in Atlanta. Let’s try to keep the mothers out of it, guys.
